GROHE X Podcast – Sammen om bæredygtighed
Episode #3: Louise Holloway and Marcella Hansch on the topic of shaping tomorrow's built environment
In our third episode of our ‘Together for Sustainability’ podcast, Louise Holloway, a Paris-based business owner, creative director, and award-winning educator in the fields of communication strategy, project management and entrepreneurship, talks to podcast host Marcella Hansch, CEO of the everwave foundation. As co-founder and director of the Energy Endeavour Foundation (EEF), winner of the European Solar Prize, Louise shares insights on how our intrepid next generations are shaping tomorrow´s built environment.
According to the UN environment programme, CO2 emissions from buildings and structures are at an all-time high, causing the sector to deviate from its 2050 decarbonization target. With carbon emissions from buildings and construction accounting for nearly 40% of global carbon emissions and about 50% of global material consumption, the construction sector certainly is an area where immediate action is needed. But how can a turnaround be initiated?
Through the Energy Endeavour Foundation, Louise responds by stewarding student research competitions and awareness activities for regenerative development. With an eye on technology transfers and youth empowerment, the EEF’s core project is the Solar Decathlon Europe (SDE), the premier global student competition for resource-responsible habitation. In this competition, international university teams compete on-site, in record time through ten contests, to design, build, and operate fully efficient dwellings powered by renewables. The EEF is the SDE’s governing body, promoting the framework, quality, and legacy of the SDE. The most recent edition in Wuppertal, Germany was smashing success with sixteen international teams, and more than 120,000 visitors.
Listen in for more on Louise’s commitment to and belief in our future makers and doers, as they forge a more sustainable built environment. Hear more about the Energy Endeavour Foundation’s passion project, the Solar Decathlon Europe, and parallel EEF entrepreneurship initiatives.
