The Cradle – environmentally friendly from facade to bathroom

The Media Harbor district in Düsseldorf, Germany, is renowned for its architectural innovation. Since December 2003, the office building The Cradle has added to this dynamic landscape. As Düsseldorf’s first timber hybrid structure, it was developed by INTERBODEN and designed in collaboration with HPP Architects based on the Cradle to Cradle® principle. This approach ensures that most of the building’s materials can be reused after dismantling, embracing a circular economy model.

Serving as a raw material depot, all materials used in the building have been tested for material health, freedom from harmful substances, and the ability to disassemble components later. Every aspect of the design reflects this circular thinking – from the facade, composed almost entirely of timber elements, to the environmentally friendly bathrooms. Join Antonino Vultaggio, Senior Partner at HPP Architects, to explore more about the building's design, circular economy, and GROHE’s Cradle to Cradle Certified® solutions.
